Ha! Take that, unnecessarily complex template!

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Okay, so it probably isn’t that hard for someone who, say, knows what they’re doing, but this was really starting to cheese me off.  After browsing through the pre-made themes available, and failing to find a nice,  clean one I could modify, I figured I’d just stick with the default theme and work with that.

My initial hurdle still remained.  I’d been trying to figure out how to disable the stupid “Customize your header by changing colors, but God forbid you want to make your own banner” function.  I just couldn’t figure out which php file to monkey with, and what sections to comment out.   Well, a few hours of poking around, and suddenly I get the brilliant idea to (wait for it…) Google my way out of it!  Boy Howdy, here’s what popped up on the first search page:

Yep, who’d a thunk that a Google search would provide me with exactly what I was looking for?!  Clear concise instructions on what php file to modify and which lines to comment out.

Still feeling dumb, but at least I have my spiffy new banner up.  Now to figure out the rest of this blasted thing…

WordPress is making me stupid

Going over the design elements for this thing is giving me a headache.  I thought I had a handle on CSS, but apparently not…

I suppose I could use some of the publicly available design templates WordPress keeps telling me about, but having gone to art school (over 10 YEARS AGO– yikes!), the thought of using Someone Else’s Design Templates makes me gag, but since I’m apparently more than a decade behind the technology, I might have to cave.   Or (*shudder*) buy a CSS how-to manual and muscle through it.  Is there a “CSS for Stubborn Bastards” book out there?
